Are they kidding??

Well, yes they are actually – or fawning, depending on the species. Recent video from the trail camera has captured both roe deer and muntjac youngsters.

Here’s video of some roe kids. Roe deer give birth around January, so these are probably in their second year. The one here is clearly smaller and so likely to have been born this year. Not on its own as initially appears – mummy is keeping her eye on it.

And one of a muntjac mother and fawn. All very cute (sorry about the ‘c’ word). Muntjac can breed at any time during the year so it’s not so easy to estimate ages.

And not to leave the fathers, a composite of various muntjac bucks the camera has seen, distinguishable by their alters. They grow one set of antlers a year, shed in the spring and regrown by the autumn.
