Trailcam – R.I.P.

Yesterday I went to the wood to change the memory card in the trail camera – and found it gone.

I’ve always admitted that whatever security precautions I took, they would be unlikely to defeat a really determined attempt to steal it. But I tried not to make it easy – it was fixed to whatever it was mounted on with a padlocked steel cable that ran through the back of the camera. Yesterday the cable and padlock were still in place but no camera. In order to have done this without removing the cable, the thief would have had to destroy the back of the camera.

Why do it? It wasn’t an expensive camera anyway, and damaged and possibly broken would be worth little or nothing. What a waste. Ultimately a selfish act with the end result being to spoil the enjoyment of many. I hope they are proud of themselves.

I still have some unprocessed footage from the last few months which I will use to produce a final posting.

  1. Can’t believe the trailcam has gone, i’m so sorry. It was there On Sunday. Always check on it when i walk past the ponds with the dogs. You say they were a inexpensive camera. How much are they? We need to get a new one!

  2. Kind of you to offer to help fund a replacement, but I don’t think it will be necessary. But I need to have a conversation with Rod, our treasurer ….

  3. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of the trailcam as you’ve had such good footage from it. I hate deliberate vandalism where even the perpetrator doesn’t gain anything from the action.
